Laurie J. Kunzle

  composer - performer - educator

Laurie J. Kunzle is a music educator and composer residing in Northern New Jersey. 

She has taught for 34 years and has been the 

Director of Bands at Lakeland Regional High School (NJ) for the past 25 years.

She holds a B.S. in Music Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and 

Master of Arts in Music Theory/Composition from Montclair State University.


Laurie has written music for many marching bands and drum corps on the U.S. east coast & in England

and composed original works for concert band and small ensembles. Her compositions have 

been played by the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Ridgewood Concert Band, 

the Hanover Wind Symphony, the NJ Region I Band and several high school and middle school bands.  

Commissions for compositions from First Presbyterian Church in White Bear Lake, MN, 

Ben Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood, NJ, and Vernon Township HS in Vernon, NJ.


Laurie has been involved with drum corps as a horn player (including the '85 DCI Champion Cadets), 

drum major (for the 6 time DCA Champion Bushwackers), and 

brass instructor and caption head with several corps. 

 She has written brass scores and worked on the design teams for many corps 

including The Bushwackers of Harrison, NJ, 

The Connecticut Hurricanes, The U.S. Coast Guard Academy drum and bugle corps, 

and the Pride of Bristol drum and bugle corps of Bristol, England.


As a clarinetist Laurie Kunzle has performed with the National Community Band in

Las Vegas, the Ridgewood Concert Band

and as concert master with the Ramapo Wind Symphony.  

She has conducted over 30 musicals and performed as a reed player for many. 

including; The Barn Theater, The Oradel Players, & West Milford Players. 

Laurie has studied conducting with Mallory Thompson and Jeffrey Renshaw 

and toured Europe with the American Music Abroad concert bands as a conductor 

for "several hundred high school honors musicians".
